OVERVIEW

Twelve is a next-generation industrial company focused on transforming the way fuels, chemicals, and materials are made. Founded in 2015 at Stanford by Dr. Kendra Kuhl, Dr. Etosha Cave, and Nicholas Flanders, Twelve developed carbon transformation technology that converts CO2, water, and renewable electricity into products traditionally made from fossil resources. Its technology works through a CO2 electrolyzer, which Twelve describes as functioning like “industrial photosynthesis,” creating fuels and chemical building blocks from water, air, and clean energy.

This vision came to life through AirPlant™ One, Twelve’s commercial-scale production facility. AirPlant™ One was designed to produce E-Jet® sustainable aviation fuel and E-Naphtha™, a synthetic chemical feedstock used as a building block for everyday products. The facility represents a major step toward producing lower-carbon fuels and materials without relying on traditional fossil-based feedstocks.

THE CHALLENGE

As Twelve prepared to bring AirPlant™ One into commercial operation, the company needed to support a complex, first-of-its-kind production environment. The facility was built to commercialize a new approach to fuel and chemical production, using CO2, water, and renewable electricity to create E-Jet SAF and E-Naphtha at scale.

For a facility like AirPlant™ One, reliable thermal management is essential. Critical systems across the plant require dependable heating, freeze protection, process temperature maintenance, heat distribution, and support during system start-up to help maintain safe, efficient, and consistent operations. Twelve needed proven industrial thermal solutions that could support the facility as it moved from construction and commissioning into commercial operation.

THE SOLUTION

Thermon supported Twelve’s AirPlant™ One facility with a broad range of heat trace products, heating systems, engineered solutions, and on-site services. These solutions helped support the thermal infrastructure needed for reliable facility operation, including process temperature maintenance, freeze protection, controlled heating, and field installation support.

By combining products, engineering expertise, and commissioning support, Thermon helped provide the thermal management foundation needed for a forward-looking facility like AirPlant™ One. As industries transition toward lower-carbon solutions, Thermon’s role highlights the importance of reliable industrial systems behind breakthrough technologies.

THE RESULT

In June 2026, Twelve opened AirPlant™ One in Moses Lake, Washington. The facility brought Twelve’s vision for fuel and chemical production into commercial operation. AirPlant™ One is the first commercial-scale facility in the United States designed to produce E-Jet® fuel and E-Naphtha™ from CO2, water, and renewable electricity. Its opening marks a major step forward for sustainable aviation fuel and advanced manufacturing.

“These milestones represent far more than a single facility. They demonstrate what is possible when scientists, engineers, operators, customers, investors, policymakers, and industry leaders come together to build something entirely new.” Jenna Mesic, Director of Experiences and Brand Partnerships at Twelve

Thermon is proud to have supported this milestone by supplying thermal management products, engineered solutions, and field services for AirPlant™ One. As the future of energy and sustainable manufacturing evolves, projects like AirPlant™ One show what is possible when innovation, engineering, and reliable industrial infrastructure come together.

“Reliable and efficient thermal management remains a critical enabler of these breakthroughs -ensuring performance, safety, and operational continuity in complex, high-impact applications. This aligns directly with our core strategic pillar of Energy Transition.” Larry Duke, Vice President, Western Hemisphere at Thermon
