Emergency Core Cooling (ECC) strainers provide protection for the reactor emergency core coolant pump and containment spray system pump under LOCA conditions. ECC strainers are used to capture the large amount of pipe insulation and other debris that is dislodged in the event of LOCA.
They are designed to guarantee low head loss in order for the pump to continue operation. ECC strainers are customized for installation in an existing plant with minimal changes to plant infrastructure. Thermon Heating Systems ECC strainers are tested per GSI-191 guidelines.
