Super Heaters

Fuel-Fired and Electric Superheaters

Vapor Power superheaters deliver fast startup and fully modulating output for high-pressure, high-temperature applications. Available in fuel-fired and electric configurations, these systems are packaged and factory tested to support reliable, safe operation across demanding steam systems.

Fuel-Fired Superheaters

Natural gas and fuel oil-fired units deliver high-capacity superheat with coil-tube designs similar to Vapor Power steam generators. Saturated steam enters the inlet, passes through coils, and is reheated as hot combustion gases envelop the tube surface for high heat transfer. Steam temperature is controlled by linkageless fuel/air ratio control that responds to steam temperature.

Typical ranges

  • Capacities: 400,000 to 7,700,000 BTU/hr
  • Pressure: 15 to 3,200 PSIG
  • Temperatures: up to 1,250°F

Electric Superheaters

Electric superheaters are custom-designed for high-efficiency and fast-response heating. Rugged electric resistance elements are mounted in an ASME pressure vessel, and SCR temperature control provides full modulation to maintain the desired steam temperature. Electric units can be installed adjacent to the saturated steam source or remotely when only part of the steam load requires superheat.

Typical ranges

  • Capacities: 7.5 kW to 600 kW
  • Pressure: 15 to 2,500 PSIG
  • Temperatures: up to 1,200°F
  • Voltages: 208 to 600 V

Applications

Common applications include:

  • Power plants
  • Process steam or heat
  • Valve testing

Controls and connectivity

Fuel-fired superheaters are available with modern communications and controls, including linkageless burner controls and configurable PLC/HMI options. Remote data acquisition and control are available via ModBus, Ethernet, Bacnet, or other communication protocols.
